Counselling

In my role as a Counsellor I focus highly on the counselling relationship and believe it is of prime importance when helping people to look at themselves and their lives.  Amongst using many creative methods in my work, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Mindfulness, Gestalt, I am also qualified and specialise in the use of Humanistic Sandplay Therapy which facilitates exploration, expression, awareness and discovery and is beneficial for adults and children who become stuck, unable to express pain in words, or are unable to understand their own process.  I am trained and also specialise in Brainspotting (BSP) which is a relatively new type of therapy designed to help people access, process, and overcome trauma, negative emotions, and pain, including psychologically induced physical pain.

My therapy being integrative is tailored to suit your needs.  I will work short term and long term with you depending on your need.

My work with you is non-judgmental, safe and confidential where you can explore aspects of your life and talk openly about thoughts and feelings; this way of working will be very different to how you may talk to family and friends.  We will look at present problems, past experiences, trigger situations, intermediate and core beliefs to help you understand yourself much better and encourage meaningful change.

Family and Couple/Relationship Counselling

All families experience problems and face challenges at some time in their lives. Issues such as illness/bereavement/family relationships/divorce/separation/mental health/substance abuse plus many other issues can be experienced by families and or couples. Family counselling helps families overcome crisis, improve relationships and provide support in difficult times.

Family Counselling benefits the whole family and every person in the family can expect have a voice and be heard within their sessions, which will give all family members the opportunity to express how they think and feel about their situation and find solutions for change.

Relationships with partners/spouses can sometimes be difficult, I work with you both offering equal, non-judgemental support, understanding and empathy to help you work through any issues that are impacting negatively on your relationship, hopefully preventing risk of relationship breakdown.  Together we will work through your issues to help you both understand each other differently and more positively, from this my hope is that the outcome of your therapy you will be that together you will once again find happiness, love and stability in your relationship.

Children/Adolescent Counselling

Children/adolescents can be troubled with a wide range of issues, such as peer and family relationship issues; learning difficulties; loss by death or divorce; attachment issues; domestic violence; emotional abuse, sexual abuse; physical abuse, neglect; drugs and alcohol misuse and more; they can sometimes find it difficult to express their worries, thoughts and feelings resulting in problems being unresolved and at times undetected.  If it is evident that a child/adolescent is unhappy to the extreme that they are showing emotions such as low mood; anxiety; anger; sadness; fear; mental health issues at such times it is beneficial to seek professional help.

Counselling for children/adolescents is similar to adult counselling in that both depend on construction of a trusting relationship between Counsellor and client.  As an experienced Counsellor in working with children and adolescents I work in a way to allow their story to be told without fear of judgment or interrogation in a safe reassuring environment and I will help them to looking at solutions to their problems.

In my work with children/adolescents I incorporate creative techniques, which may include working with a sandtray and miniatures (Sandplay Therapy) to help exploration of their world.  With children/adolescents I always take into consideration the realms of child protection; I hold an enhanced DBS Disclosure Certificate.
